Osteoporosis Medications Linked to Jaw Bone Disease

Could medications that reduce bone loss in certain places cause bone loss in others? Osteoporosis is a bone weakening disease that affects about ten million Americans. Common medications taken for osteoporosis are Fosamax, Actonel and Boniva.

Since 2003, reports have surfaced that show a possible link between osteoporosis medications and osteonecrosis, a rare and serious disease that causes jaw bone destruction.
