Definition: Thrush is a yeast infection in the mouth caused by a fungus named Candida Albicans which grows out of control and causes painful lesions usually on the inner cheecks and tongue, but can also spread to the roof of your mouth, gums, tonsils and throat. Having a weakened immune system, taking certain antibiotics and / or steroids, being in poor general health, having diabetes and receiving chemotherapy are factors that could increase your chances of developing thrush. Thrush is also common in elderly people and newborns.
