no big deal
- Had my 2 lowers done under local anesthesia with nitrous oxide. No big deal, I went with the ipod distraction method per recommendations of the oral surgeon. I was barely swollen and the pain other than loosing the clot from when I sneezed was pretty much minimal. The oral surgeon I went to happen to be a client for a IT company I was there working on behalf of so I decided to ask her since I hadn't seen a dentist in nearly 10 years after having a bad experience that pretty much got me not to see one. She is a Oral Surgeon so having a pro who specifically went to school for doing extractions, implants, etc was definitely a benefit than having a regular family/cosmetic dentist doing it. I initially got 2 injections per side plus an additional long acting local once she was pretty much done so that I would not be in pain post op for a few hours (4-6 hours post op without pain).

Horrible experience
- I had all 4 removed, and one he has a hard time getting out. That part hurts the most. Also the needles for numbing hurt bad esspppecciialluy the one in the roof of your mouth. My cheeks are massive and it's starting to depress me! Good luck to u, but it'll hurt like he'll

it depends on your provider
- I had a weird experience, I wasn't afraid at all because I've had a lot of work done on my teeth before and also an extraction of a surfaced tooth. However, I was unlucky enough to not have any insurance and had to get it done by a native clinic. They do not put you under! >< It was normal numbing and I was completely awake for the whole thing, they even had to numb me up again because they didn't get it enough the first time. On top of that, I had a dentist in training do the procedure on me and she was incredibly unsure on how to go about it, she dug around and sliced up my gums pretty bad -__- I don't blame her for being nervous, but damn that wasn't pleasant. The real doctor had to step in and yank/twist the tooth out (a ton of pressure there). This took 1 hour and a half for one! I have to go back to get my bottom two removed. It's been 4 days and I still am hurting pretty badly, I wish they had given me more than just 4 painkillers, yeah 4 pills total... it sucks

Nightmare...no face
- I used to have a beautiful heart face and jawline like Giselle, and high cheekbones like Angelina and cheeks like Johnny Depp...my wisdom teeth are gone.. in 3 months face changing, still thin girl, but empty space where teeth were is sagging down giving double chin and rounded face..top wisdom teeth were holding in place back jaw bone connecting to cheeckbones which held skull up now rounded face not elongated, liposuction can help for sagging skin from the empty space left where teeth where, but it is the jaw teeth that shapes are structure, and pulls skin tightly contours our face together.. teeth implants may help and jaw surgery for youthful look again.. this can put a person into shock seeing and knowing they are going to look older and fat fast, no matter how thin they are...more money for surgens..i am going bk to get teeth and jaw and lipo, will still never be the same though

Not fun but glad its done
- I recently had my wisdom teeth out a week ago. All 4 of them were removed. Unfortunately all 4 of them were impacted, with the bottom 2 being impacted severely. I was given a sedative (Halcion, a powerful short acting benzo) before I even got in the chair. All I really remember is the doc saying that the first one was out. When I got home I was trying to eat a string cheese but I was still numb and I had to use my finger to fish the chunks of bloody string cheese out of my mouth. I then fell asleep for 6 hours. When I woke up I was in throbbing pain but I just took some percocets. The second day the swelling increased but the pain managed to subside a little. I cant say it was the ideal spring break but I'm glad they are out and I won't have to deal with pain and other problems in the future.

Don't Believe Everything You Hear
- I had 2 of my impacted bottom wisdom teeth removed 2 days ago and I'm fine! I was also so scared before having it done because of all the horror stories I've heard and read but all you're really going to feel is the pressure. My cheeks did not even swell like a chipmunk afterward! I'm drinking antibiotics and painkiller now and I'll be back to work by tomorrow. No biggie! :)

A wonderful experience
- Considering what I had prepared myself for, I had the best experience. I was more afraid of being put under than anything. I expressed my fears and the staff and my surgeon were great at comforting me. All I remember was him saying I was doing wonderful and asking how I felt. I said "kind of fuzzy". Then I woke up and it was done! I was extremely chatty and giggly when I woke up. Today is the second day and I have only taken 2 pain pills (1 vicodin after the numbness wore off and 1 Advil before bed last night). I've had nothing today. My jaws just feel kind of tired like I have just chewed gum for a long time. I was out shopping last night and you'd never have known I had anything done. I credit an awesome oral surgeon :o) The worst part of the whole thing was the anxiety, lack of sleep and upset stomach for the week prior worrying about how bad it was going to be! I worried for nothing.

No big deal - yet
- So today I got my 2 upper wisdom's out just at the dentist. They were both through the gum but really decayed, and have consistently hurt me... I was really scared that it would hurt because every time I touched the wisdom's they would hurt like hell. So I got numbed up -- worst part of the whole thing. The anesthetic tastes so gross, and they have to put some into the roof of my mouth -- slightly uncomfortable. We begun... dentist checked to see if everything was completely numb...it wasn't so more injections. OK so finally the pulling out begins.... she just pushed really hard..all I could feel was pressure and the next thing I know was it was out. NO PAIN AT ALL. The second one took a bit longer. NO PAIN EITHER... my heart was beating so fast with the 2nd one cause apparently I had an infection and it really hurt in day to day life.....afterward I had a little pain nothing that cant be managed though. SO DON'T WORRY EVERYTHING WILL BE FINE!!! =D

Frightened but comforted
- I am 30 years old and have put off having my wisdom teeth removed for years. I just scheduled my consult and think I will be in the chair in about a month. I have heard both horror stories and some not so bad but I remember when my brother had teeth removed as a kid and always being so scared I would have to some day. I only have 3 and none are impacted but the top 2 are practically pointing outward so I'm just really hoping that won't be a problem. I also really hate the taste of blood, so hopefully there won't be too much of that. Reading some of your stories has taken the edge off so wish me luck! I'll come back and post my experience after!

No Big Deal
- Upper and lower wisdom extracts. Painless, quick and comfortable. Nothing to fear. I did see an OMFS (Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon), not a general dentist so that may have been the difference. Bill

Wisdom Teeth No Big Deal
- I was SO scared to get my wisdom teeth out. I got them taken yesterday, and it was not bad at all. I had IV sedation and I was nearly crying when the needle came towards me, but it didn't hurt at all and I was asleep in 3 seconds. I cried my eyes out when I woke up because I was disoriented. I was nauseous yesterday but now I feel fine. I am in no pain. (They sent home some Vicodin, but I'm not taking it, because I don't need to.) Just follow the aftercare and don't worry about it. It's not a bad procedure at all. Just make sure your surgeon is nice and willing to listen to you.

OUCH!!!!
- I recently had my wisdom teeth extracted and the extraction or procedure itself isn't painful. All you feel is the basic pressure of the surgeon pulling out the tooth and that's only if your under L.A. if your completely knocked then hey, ur lucky lol....but the pain comes afterward it didn't kill me but it was annoying to not be able to talk or eat correctly. The first day I bleed for a few hours and it hurt like hell, couldn't talk and could not eat, the rest of the week the pain started to slowly diminish but it was definitely an annoying and semi-painful process, it really depends on the person and the persons pain tolerance, but it is truly worth it to not have the constant pain of the tooth bothering you in the future.. a week of minor pain is worth it

wisdom removal
- Can anyone answer me this if the dentist did not take an x-ray of the tooth, my wisdom tooth which was decayed could there be complications? What complications? I just took out my tooth and I was scared before and still kinda worried after? Should I be and if so why? The procedure altogether was a smooth one! no problems re: the extraction.

Nothing to be afraid of
- I was absolutely terrified of having my wisdom tooth out but it was so simple I would recommend it to anyone. It bled for a couple of hours but 4 hours after the procedure I was eating again normally. Soft food for a couple of days & salt baths as recommended and it will be fine.
